Sometimes life can be overwhelming. Whether it’s related to persistent worrying, poor grades, sadness, attention troubles, or familial strife, psychotherapy can provide you with a greater understanding of yourself and your family.
My psychotherapy office is located in the Pasadena area. When we first meet we will discuss the concerns that brought you to therapy. We will then work together to discover the reasons for struggles and collaborate on ways to improve or change your current circumstances. Research has proven that talk therapy alone can help you gain insight into your troubles and allow you to feel better.
I provide you with an empathic, safe, and confidential environment where you can begin this exploration process in my office in Pasadena. Once we both understand your difficulties better, I integrate research-supported methodologies to help you feel better sooner.
About Psychotherapy
Sometimes life can be overwhelming. Whether it’s related to constant worrying, poor grades, feeling sad, being unable to pay attention, or unable to understand your family members. Psychotherapy can provide you with greater understanding of yourself and your family.
What is individual psychotherapy like?
Since I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, we work together to discover the reasons for your struggles and how to begin to facilitate change. An initial session will usually involve some paperwork and an introduction to therapy, as well as discussing your recent difficulties. Depending on what you desire from therapy, we either set goals or work toward better understanding your problems. Research has proven that talk therapy alone can help you gain insight and allow you to feel better. I provide you with an empathic, safe, and confidential environment where you can begin this exploration process. Once we both understand your difficulties better, I integrate research supported methodologies to help you feel better sooner.
How does psychotherapy for teens differ?
Individual therapy for teens often looks quite similar to individual therapy for adults. Frequently the therapy is talk based, but setting goals is often done via family collaboration. To avoid therapy becoming too monotonous, sessions with teens often integrate other activities and means of assessing thoughts and feelings.
What about psychotherapy for children?
For children, sessions are divided in half. The initial part of the session is play based, as this is how children learn and express themselves most effectively. The second part of the session is a collaborative parent-child session.
When will I feel better?
The length of time you will need to start to feel better varies depending upon your individual situation and therapeutic goals. Length of treatment can vary from a few weeks to a few months or longer. Research indicates that psychotherapy helps to reduce the duration of depression. I have found that length of treatment is related to one's goals for therapy. In general, research indicates that it can take longer for children and teens to feel better or demonstrate improved behaviors. I believe this is because children and teens have limited control over their environment and, as such, improvement takes change not only from within the child or teen but also from their familial and occasionally academic environments.
What about family therapy?
Family therapy is a way to improve communication and begin to understand the habits of your family. This understanding leads to us setting goals so that as a family you can begin to work together to improve communication and ultimately the household climate you live in. Family therapy is a great way to take the time to discuss recent concerns and address challenges facing all of the family members.
